Malope Trifida

Malope trifida is a robust Mediterranean annual with branching stems, lobed green leaves and large, silky, trumpet-shaped flowers. Blooms range from pale pink through cerise to deep purple-red, usually with strong darker veins converging on a bright green star of sepals. Flowering from summer into autumn, it brings the openness of a mallow with the speed and generosity of an annual. Pollinating insects visit the broad flowers, while the stems are useful for cutting. It is excellent for cottage borders, annual meadows and gaps that need height in a single season.
