Malus Micromalus

Kaido crab apple, Malus × micromalus, is a compact upright tree with dark pink buds opening into masses of fragrant clear pink and white blossom. The spring display is followed by cherry-sized fruits in red or yellow, bringing colour into autumn and food for garden birds. Its modest size and rounded outline suit smaller lawns, courtyards and wildlife gardens. The hybrid has long been cultivated in East Asia and every seedling is genetically individual, so plants raised from seed may vary in flower shade, fruit colour, vigour and ultimate habit.
