Maurandya Scandens

Maurandya scandens is a tender Mexican climber with slender twining stems, broad triangular leaves and a long summer succession of rich purple trumpet flowers with luminous white throats. Grown outdoors as an annual, it can quickly cover a trellis, obelisk or warm wall, yet the fine stems and leaves keep the display light rather than bulky. Under glass it may live for several years and reach impressive height. The species is also known as Asarina scandens and is particularly effective where its bells can spill through pale foliage or cascade from a large container.
