Meconopsis Robusta

Meconopsis robusta is a towering yellow Himalayan poppy from the western Himalaya and western Nepal. A substantial rosette and stout, hollow, bristly stems develop into a leafy raceme carrying numerous sulphur-yellow flowers, each with broad crinkled petals and a dense golden centre. In the wild it inhabits temperate forest margins and mountain slopes at roughly 2,400–4,000 metres. The plant is monocarpic, gathering strength before a single imposing flowering season, then setting seed. Its scale and late colour make it a remarkable subject for a cool, moist woodland garden.
