ViewMeconopsis simplicifolia is a compact Himalayan blue poppy whose flowers rise singly on nearly leafless stems from a basal rosette. The broad, silky blooms range from pale blue and violet to deep sky blue or purple, surrounding golden-orange anthers. Bristly lance-shaped leaves and the simple, uncluttered flower stems give the plant a particularly refined alpine appearance. It occurs beside streams, in grassland and on rocky high slopes from Nepal and Bhutan into Tibet. Cool air, constant moisture and humus-rich drainage are essential to preserve its delicate character.
