Meum Athamanticum

Spignel is a graceful native mountain perennial with a dense tuft of exceptionally fine, feathery leaves that release a sweet aromatic scent when crushed. Slender summer stems carry flat umbels of tiny white flowers, attracting a variety of small insects above the dark green foliage. Once more widespread in upland hay meadows, Meum athamanticum has declined as traditional grassland management has disappeared. Its old common names include baldmoney and meu. It is a beautiful plant for a sunny meadow edge or herbaceous border with well-drained, preferably alkaline soil.
