Moraea Elegans

Moraea elegans is one of the most vividly patterned Cape moraeas, producing short spring stems topped by iris-like flowers in yellow, orange or salmon. Broad dark marks and contrasting nectar guides create a bold central pattern that attracts beetle pollinators, while each bloom lasts only briefly and is replaced by fresh flowers in succession. The species is localised to seasonally moist clay slopes in the south-western Cape and can be difficult to maintain. Its intense colour and rarity make it a fine collector’s plant for a cool bulb frame.
