Narcissus Assoanus

Narcissus assoanus is a delicate jonquil of limestone meadows and rocky slopes in eastern Spain and southern France. Fine rush-like leaves accompany short stems carrying one or two small golden-yellow flowers, each with narrow tepals and a neat cup. The blooms are often pleasantly lemon scented and appear in spring, bringing fragrance and colour to a trough or sunny alpine bed. Named for the Spanish botanist Ignacio de Asso, this miniature daffodil thrives in lean calcareous soil and appreciates winter moisture followed by a warm, dry summer rest.
