Poet’s daffodil is one of the most elegant and fragrant narcissi, carrying a single late-spring flower with broad pure white tepals around a small yellow eye edged sharply in red. The scent is rich and memorable, and the distinctive corona inspired the name pheasant’s eye. Native to European mountain meadows, Narcissus poeticus has been admired since antiquity and is closely linked with the classical myth of Narcissus. It naturalises beautifully in cool grassland and open woodland, flowering after many earlier daffodils have finished.
