Oenothera Caespitosa

Tufted evening primrose is a western North American perennial with low rosettes of grey-green, often toothed leaves and enormous white flowers that open rapidly at dusk. The four silky petals surround a yellow-green throat and long stamens, releasing fragrance for hawkmoths before ageing pink by the following morning. The flowers appear almost stemless and can cover the compact plant through summer. Adapted to desert, sagebrush and rocky mountain ground, Oenothera cespitosa combines remarkable bloom size with drought tolerance and is superb in a sunny gravel garden.
