Oenothera Glazioviana

Large-flowered evening primrose is an upright biennial with a basal rosette of crinkled leaves and tall summer stems opening pale yellow bowls from striking red buds. The flowers unfold towards evening, release a light scent for moths and often age through orange or reddish tones by the following day. Formerly widely known as Oenothera lamarckiana, this plant became famous through Hugo de Vries's early studies of mutation and evolution. It is bold, easy and especially effective in gravel gardens and wildlife borders.
