Oenothera Stricta

Oenothera stricta is a fragrant South American evening primrose with narrow blue-green leaves and upright stems of clear yellow flowers. Each bloom opens from a reddish bud towards evening, releasing scent for night-flying insects, then often turns orange or red as it fades. Native from Chile to southern Argentina, it is naturally adapted to open, dry ground and brings a light vertical accent to gravel gardens and sunny borders. Short lived but generous, it flowers for months and can maintain itself gently from seed where drainage is good.
