Olsynium Junceum Subsp. Depauperatum

Olsynium junceum subsp. depauperatum is a slender Chilean geophyte with rush-like leaves and wiry stems carrying small, delicate flowers in white, rose pink or lilac. The blooms face sideways or nod slightly and are unusual within the iris family because nectar is secreted from the filaments. Native to south-central and southern Chile, it follows a cool-season cycle, growing from autumn through spring before resting in summer. Compact, airy and rarely cultivated, it makes an appealing alpine pot or trough plant and may flower surprisingly young from seed.
