Ornithogalum Montanum

Mountain star-of-Bethlehem is a Mediterranean bulb of arid, stony grassland, producing broad green leaves that lie flat against the soil without the familiar silver midstripe seen in some relatives. A spring stem carries an open cluster of silky white stars, each marked green on the reverse and opening most widely in bright sunshine. Ornithogalum montanum is usually solitary rather than spreading rapidly by offsets, making it easier to place in a rock garden or alpine bed. It thrives with cool-season moisture, intense light and a warm dry summer rest.
