Ornithogalum Naborense

Ornithogalum narbonense is a tall Mediterranean star-of-Bethlehem with strong stems carrying long racemes of numerous white, six-pointed flowers. A narrow green stripe marks the reverse of each tepal, while the flowers open progressively from the base and can remain effective for weeks. The species name refers to Narbonne in southern France, though its natural range extends widely around the Mediterranean and into western Asia. Elegant in a sunny bulb bed and useful for cutting, it enjoys cool winter growth and a hot, dry summer dormancy.
