Ornithogalum Princeps

Ornithogalum princeps, the berg lily or summer hyacinth, is a tall South African bulb with erect strap-shaped leaves and stately summer racemes of pale lime-green, waxy bells. Each stem can carry many widely spreading flowers, their creamy green petals marked by a softer stripe and topped by green anthers dusted with yellow pollen. The species grows among rocks and near streams from the Eastern Cape to KwaZulu-Natal. Its name princeps means leader or first, an apt title for this commanding plant, which also provides elegant, long-lasting cutting stems.
