Ornithogalum Regale

The royal berg lily is a graceful summer-growing bulb of the Drakensberg and Lesotho, where colonies cling to wet cliffs at elevations approaching 2,800 metres. Broad green leaves surround tall stems carrying nodding bells in pale creamy yellow touched with green. The specific name regale refers to Royal Natal National Park, where the type material was collected near the spectacular Tugela Falls. Hardy when its bulbs are protected from stagnant winter moisture, Ornithogalum regale brings a refined mountain character to sunny borders and containers.
