Ornithogalum Sintenisii

Ornithogalum sintenisii is a miniature eastern Mediterranean star-of-Bethlehem, forming a tight tuft of narrow leaves and short stems of silky white flowers. A green stripe marks the back of each petal and becomes clearly visible when the blooms close, while the compact scale makes the whole plant ideal for a trough or alpine pot. Named for the German collector Paul Sintenis, it grows through the cool wet season and retreats underground before summer heat. Hardy in well-drained ground, it needs full light and protection from persistent winter saturation.
