Oryza Sativa 'Black Mountain'

This stock is intended as a dark ornamental form of cultivated rice, but the name 'Black Mountain' has not been matched confidently to a formally recognised cultivar. Seedlings should be assessed individually for purple-black foliage, compact habit, coloured stems and decorative grain panicles, with the best plants retained under the original provenance. Like all Oryza sativa, it is a heat-loving annual that transforms a sunny water container or pond margin into a miniature paddy. Strong colour develops only with warmth, full light, constant moisture and regular feeding.
