Pancratium illyricum is a dramatic Mediterranean bulb native to Corsica, Sardinia and nearby islands. Broad grey-green leaves form a strong basal clump before sturdy stems carry umbels of large white, sweetly fragrant flowers. Each bloom combines six narrow tepals with a delicate central corona, creating the elegant spider-like outline typical of the genus. Flowering in late spring or early summer, it is an impressive pot or gravel-garden subject for mild districts, thriving with cool-season moisture, full sun and a warm, dry summer dormancy.
