Pennisetum Glaucum 'Jester'

‘Jester’ is a compact ornamental pearl millet with an upright, strongly architectural habit. Young leaves emerge chartreuse with a burgundy wash, then deepen to rich wine red and purple in full summer sun. Thick bottlebrush flower spikes rise above the foliage and mature into burgundy seed heads that attract grain-eating birds and provide excellent material for fresh or dried arrangements. Faster and more manageable than the tallest purple millets, it brings tropical colour to borders and large containers while retaining the heat tolerance and vigour of an ancient African cereal crop.
