Penstemon Fruticosus

Penstemon fruticosus is a low evergreen subshrub from rocky slopes of western Canada and the north-western United States. Woody spreading stems carry glossy, often toothed leaves and short summer racemes of broad tubular flowers in violet-blue, lavender or purple, usually with a paler throat. The blooms are large in proportion to the compact plant and attract native bees and hummingbirds in its homeland. Tough, drought tolerant and beautifully proportioned, it is ideal for a sunny rock garden, wall or raised bed where the crown remains dry through winter.
