Penstemon Grinnellii

Grinnell’s beardtongue is a Californian mountain perennial with a basal clump of grey-green leaves and strong stems carrying unusually large, open-mouthed flowers. Blooms range from pale lavender and lilac to almost white, often marked by purple guide lines and a conspicuously hairy golden staminode within the throat. Native to dry slopes, open pine woodland and rocky canyons, it is both drought tolerant and highly attractive to bees. The broad flowers and refined colouring make it a striking specimen for a sunny gravel garden with excellent drainage.
