Physaria Alpestris

Physaria alpestris is an alpine twinpod forming a compact rosette of silvery or grey-green leaves close to the ground. Short stems carry clusters of bright yellow, four-petalled flowers, followed by paired inflated seed pods that give the genus its common name. Native to exposed western North American mountain habitats, it is built for cold, wind, intense light and lean stony soil. The combination of metallic foliage, cheerful spring flowers and sculptural fruits makes it a rewarding specialist plant for a sunny trough or alpine house with flawless drainage.
