Potentilla Recta

Sulphur cinquefoil is an upright European perennial with softly hairy, divided leaves and branching summer stems carrying numerous pale sulphur-yellow flowers. Each five-petalled bloom has a slightly darker centre and a simple wildflower character that suits meadow planting, gravel gardens and informal sunny borders. The plant is tough, drought tolerant and attractive to small pollinating insects, thriving where soil is lean and freely drained. It can self-seed freely in open ground, so spent heads should be removed where a contained clump rather than a naturalised colony is preferred.
