Primula Chionantha Ssp Melanops

Primula chionantha subsp. melanops, also known as Primula melanops, is a striking Chinese snow primrose with long, mealy green leaves and upright stems carrying tiers of scented flowers. The blooms may be creamy white, violet or lilac, but the defining feature is the dark purple to almost black eye at the centre of each flower. Rising above moist alpine turf in late spring and early summer, it brings a dramatic contrast to cool woodland or bog planting. Deep humus, constant moisture and protection from heat are essential for maintaining its refined high-mountain character.
