Romulea Clusiana

Romulea clusiana is regarded as one of the showiest Mediterranean members of the genus. A large, almost stemless purple flower opens directly above a tuft of narrow leaves, its broad petals surrounding a deep golden-yellow throat. Native to Portugal, Spain and coastal north-western Africa, it flowers in late winter or early spring when the crisp colour is especially welcome. The bold bloom and miniature scale make it perfect for an alpine pot or sheltered trough with bright light, cool-season moisture and a dry summer dormancy.
