Rosa Tomentosa

Rosa tomentosa, the harsh downy rose, is a vigorous European species with long arching stems, scattered prickles and aromatic leaves clothed in soft grey hairs. Small fragrant flowers open bright pink, occasionally white, in early summer and are followed by oval red hips covered in fine bristles. Native in Britain and much of Europe, it has a natural hedgerow character and supports bees, birds and small mammals. The textured foliage, loose habit and persistent fruits make it valuable for wildlife gardens, informal screens and species-rose collections.
