Salvia Roemeriana

Cedar sage is a compact Texas and north-eastern Mexican perennial adapted to the dappled shade and fine leaf litter beneath Ashe junipers. Rounded, scalloped and softly hairy leaves form a low clump beneath vivid crimson tubular flowers from spring, with scattered bloom continuing through summer. Hummingbirds, butterflies and bees visit the nectar-rich spikes, which glow against limestone and dark evergreen foliage. Drought tolerant once established, Salvia roemeriana is a superb choice for dry shade, rocky paths and containers where ordinary red salvias would struggle.
