Saxifraga Hostii Subsp. Hostii

Saxifraga hostii subsp. hostii is an encrusted saxifrage forming substantial evergreen rosettes of leathery grey-green leaves. Fine white lime deposits line the toothed margins, creating a silver-edged pattern that remains ornamental throughout the year. Tall branching stems rise in summer with sprays of white star flowers, often spotted red or purple. Native to limestone mountains of the eastern Alps, this architectural saxifrage is excellent for a trough, wall or raised bed where cool roots and sharp calcareous drainage can be provided.
