Scabiosa Caucasica

Caucasian scabious is a refined clump-forming perennial with grey-green basal leaves and long, wiry stems carrying broad lavender-blue pincushion flowers. Enlarged frilled outer florets surround a paler domed centre, giving each bloom a delicate yet highly structured appearance. Flowering from summer into early autumn, it is exceptional for cutting and attracts bees and butterflies in abundance. Native to the Caucasus and Iran, it thrives in full sun, chalky or neutral soil and sharp winter drainage.
