Scabiosa Triandra

Scabiosa triandra is a graceful southern European scabious with a low clump of divided foliage and branching stems of lilac-blue pincushion flowers. The rounded heads are surrounded by larger outer florets, creating a light frilled edge above the wiry stems. It grows naturally in dry grassland, rocky slopes and open woodland margins, combining good drought tolerance with a long summer display. Attractive to bees and butterflies and useful for cutting, it suits chalky borders, gravel gardens and informal meadow planting.
