Silene Caroliniana Red Wherryi

This red form of Silene caroliniana subsp. wherryi produces a low evergreen or semi-evergreen cushion topped in spring by vivid red to deep rose flowers. The broad, five-petalled blooms are notched at their tips and appear large against the compact foliage, creating an intense display for a rock garden or border edge. Native forms occur on rocky slopes and open woodland in the Appalachian region of North America. Hardy, drought tolerant and attractive to pollinators, it performs best in lean soil with excellent drainage.
