Silene Noctiflora

Night-flowering catchfly is a native annual or biennial with softly hairy, sticky stems and pale pink, cream or white flowers that open towards evening. The deeply notched petals release a sweet nocturnal scent, attracting moths and other night-flying pollinators before the blooms close in daylight. Once associated with arable fields and rough ground, Silene noctiflora has declined alongside traditional farming. It is a fascinating addition to wildlife gardens and evening borders, completing its life cycle quickly and maintaining itself through seed.
