Sisyrinchium Micranthum

Sisyrinchium micranthum is a small annual blue-eyed grass native from Mexico to northern Argentina and now naturalised in many warmer regions. Fine grass-like leaves support branching stems of tiny six-petalled flowers that may be yellow, cream, white, lilac or purple, usually with a contrasting central eye. Individual blooms are short lived but open repeatedly through the season before forming rounded seed capsules. Its variable colouring and delicate scale suit containers and informal annual planting, though abundant seed means it should be managed responsibly.
