Noccaea minima, formerly Thlaspi minimum, is a miniature Alpine pennycress native from southern Austria and northern Italy into Slovenia. Low rosettes of small grey-green leaves cling to limestone rubble and produce short spring stems of tiny white, four-petalled flowers followed by flat, rounded seed pods. Its scale reflects life in exposed high mountain ground, where snow, cold and poor mineral soil prevent competition from larger plants. It is a true specialist alpine for a stone trough or crevice, demanding full light, cool roots and flawless drainage.
