ViewTigridia pringlei is a valid Mexican tiger flower species, distinct from the familiar T. pavonia. Slender fans of pleated foliage support summer stems of bright orange-red flowers, each formed from three broad outer tepals and three smaller inner segments around a patterned central cup. Individual blooms last for only one day, but several buds open successively on each stem. Compact, vivid and rarely cultivated, it is an excellent container or warm-border bulb for collectors, requiring full sun, summer moisture and a dry frost-free winter rest.
