Tilia Platyphyllos

Large-leaved lime is a majestic European deciduous tree with broad, asymmetrical heart-shaped leaves, dark green above and softly downy beneath. Pendent clusters of fragrant pale yellow flowers open in midsummer and produce abundant nectar for bees, followed by small nutlets attached to wing-like bracts. The leaves turn clear yellow in autumn, while old trees can develop massive trunks, hollows and rich wildlife habitats. Suitable only for parks and very large gardens, Tilia platyphyllos also responds well to traditional pollarding and pleaching.
