Tomato Purple Calabash

Tomato Purple Calabash is a distinctive old heirloom bearing deeply ribbed, flattened fruits that mature through dusky burgundy, purple and chocolate tones. The richly flavoured flesh has the complex, slightly smoky character prized in dark tomatoes and is excellent sliced, chopped into salads or cooked into sauces. Its highly sculpted fruits make an arresting display, while the tall indeterminate plants need strong support and regular side-shooting through the season. It is a rewarding choice for keen home growers. (Cordon)
