This cold-tolerant, potato-leaf heirloom from Czechoslovakia, bears an abundance of very sweet, flavourful, 2 to 3 inch, deep-red fruit. A 1988 comparative tasting in San Francisco gave it first place for its wonderful sweet/acid, luscious, tomatoey flavour and production.
It is very high yielding, producing quickly, heavily, reliably early, and continuously throughout the long fruiting season, and is still producing well here in mid-September. It is the first non-cherry to ripen, setting well at very low temperatures, and become even sweeter with colder autumn weather. Finally it is very disease resistant. (Cordon)
