Toxicoscordion Exaltatum

Toxicoscordion exaltatum, the giant death camas, is a tall bulbous perennial of Californian meadows, open woodland and rocky slopes. Clumps of narrow, grass-like leaves are followed by strong stems carrying long racemes of creamy white, six-pointed flowers, each marked by a conspicuous green nectary gland. The species name reflects its elevated stature among death camas. Its clean, airy flowers suit a naturalistic bulb collection, but every part contains powerful toxic alkaloids and must never be confused with edible camas.
