Nuttall's death camas is a central North American prairie and glade bulb with arching strap-like leaves and upright spring stems of white star flowers. Each bloom has a green basal nectary gland and yellow anthers, giving close detail to the otherwise simple raceme. The species can form handsome groups in open, seasonally moist ground and is visited by insects. Its common name is literal: the bulb, leaves, flowers and seed contain highly poisonous alkaloids and must be kept well apart from edible onions or camas.
