Tulipa Ferganica

Tulipa ferganica is a Central Asian species from the Fergana Valley and neighbouring mountain country. Wavy-edged glaucous leaves surround short spring stems bearing bright golden-yellow cups, often strongly blushed orange or reddish on their outer petals. The compact stature and saturated colour make this a striking bulb for a sunny trough or gravel bed. In nature it grows on open, bare and rocky hillsides, so it is adapted to cold winters followed by hot dry summers and requires uncompromising drainage around the resting bulb.
