Viola Sororia 'Freckles'

'Freckles' is a distinctive form of the common blue violet, producing broad heart-shaped leaves and spring flowers of clean white evenly speckled and splashed with violet-blue. No two blooms are marked exactly alike, giving a colony a lively hand-painted appearance. Compact, hardy and tolerant of sun or partial shade, it spreads gently by short rhizomes and can also self-seed through humus-rich soil. It is especially effective beneath deciduous shrubs, along woodland paths or in containers where the intricate patterning can be enjoyed at close range.
