Zephyranthes Tubispathus

Zephyranthes tubispatha, formerly Habranthus tubispathus, is a compact South American rain lily whose solitary flowers appear suddenly after heavy summer showers. Slender stems carry inclined funnels in copper, orange, yellow or apricot, often darkened reddish brown towards the base. The narrow leaves may develop after flowering and can persist before the bulb returns to dormancy. Native from Bolivia to southern Brazil and north-eastern Argentina, it is a colourful pot subject for warmth and full sun, responding dramatically when dry compost is thoroughly watered.
