Description

Renowned as the finest-tasting cherry tomato available, with a rich, meaty flavour, this gem is distinguished from other cherry varieties by its slightly elongated form and a tiny point at the blossom end. Very high yielding, it produces long trusses of large cherry tomatoes with a sweet, rich taste. If you have ever grown 'Sun Gold' tomatoes, the tangerine-coloured cherry, this must be the red form! A very abundant plant, it can be absolutely gigantic, and sets thousands of blossoms in large clusters producing hundreds and hundreds of gorgeous little tomatoes. Riesentraube, a classic German heirloom variety, translates as "bunch of grapes". (Cordon)

Sowing Advice

Seeds are surface-sown or covered only slightly. Do not allow the soil to dry out. Containers are held in warm conditions until sprouts appear, which may take anywhere from 3-10 days. Move sprouting plantings immediately to bright light conditions, such as a south-facing window. Inadequate light is a frequent cause of failure of young seedlings. At about the time of last frost, set out seedlings into grow bags. Plants may need staking and side-shoots removing.
