The large, mild-to-sweet tasting, deep pink fruit are very attractive indeed, especially when sliced, with pronounced pleats and hollows within the flesh as illustrated. When sliced and arranged in a salad they always make a serious talking point, and this rare and quite astonishing tomato is sold at inflated prices in exotic fruit shops. It was named after the Zapotec people of Oaxaca, Mexico, who developed this attractive tomato. (Cordon)
Coverseeds only slightly. Do not allow the soil to dry out. Containers are held in warm conditions until sprouts appear, which may take 3-10 days. Move sprouting plantings immediately to bright light conditions, eg a window. Inadequate light is a frequent cause of failure of young seedlings. Around time of last frost, set seedlings into pots. Remove side-shoots and support the plant.
