This popular heirloom variety produces a round solid heart in stunning red with dense leafy heads in a variety of red/purple shades. This easy-to-grow cabbage is perfect for cooking, pickling, coleslaw and salads, and is adaptable to heat, whilst also producing crops between mid summer and winter.
Sow the seed thinly from March to May in a well prepared seed bed in shallow drills 1" deep. Keep well watered. Thin the seedlings as they appear to 3" apart. Transplant the seedlings when they are about 6" tall to the growing site 12" apart. Set the young plants 1" deeper than they were in the seed bed. Or sow August and over-winter in a frame. Plant out in March for June harvest.
