BEGONIA GRANDIS subsp EVANSIANA
In stock
Description
Yes! A Hardy begonia! Fleshy, olive green, deeply-veined foliage is held beneath fragrant light pink flowers 3cm wide in summer. Planted in moisture retentive but freely draining soil and mulched well with bark for more frost protection, this begonia, that can be grown outside all the year around and has top growth hardy to minus 2 degrees C but the tuberous roots have always survived every winter, even at minus 10C here!
Sowing Advice
For best results, sow seeds in good light at any time onto a good soil-based compost. Very carefully water in the seeds but do not cover then with any compost at all. We recommend germinating at 15 to 20 degrees C. Seeds should ideally germinate in between 2 and 6 weeks although they make take considerably longer. Pot on seedlings before finally planting out into a container or a well-drained spot. Begonias produce very little seed, and the dust-like seeds are some of the very smallest in the world. We therefore supply them mixed with Fuller's Earth powder to enable you to sow them more easily.
