Description
Agastache rugosa 'Honey Bee Blue', commonly known as Honey Bee Blue Hyssop, is a showy, aromatic perennial that attracts pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Its upright spikes of lavender-blue flowers bloom from mid-summer to early autumn, standing tall above fragrant, mint-scented green foliage. This plant’s nectar-rich flowers make it an excellent choice for wildlife gardens, cottage gardens, or mixed borders. Thriving in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soils, Honey Bee Blue is drought-tolerant once established, making it ideal for low-maintenance or xeriscaping designs. The long-lasting blooms and compact habit make it perfect for container gardens as well. Its foliage and flowers are edible, often used to add flavor or garnish to culinary dishes, adding both beauty and utility to your garden.
Sowing Advice
Use a well-draining seed-starting mix and press the seeds lightly onto the surface without covering, as they require light to germinate. Maintain consistent moisture and a temperature of 18–22°C (65–72°F). Germination typically occurs within 7–14 days. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots and grow them on until conditions are suitable for outdoor planting. Space plants 30–50 cm apart in a sunny, well-drained location. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming.
